History & Purpose

Our History And Our Future

In 1997 in the basement of a church in Manhattan with $5,000 she inherited, Nancy Lublin decided to take the first step toward creating a world in which women don’t live in poverty, are treated with dignity and respect, strengthen their families and shape their communities. Thus, Dress for Success was born. Since 1997, Dress for Success has grown from a single location in Manhattan to a global network, spanning 143 affiliates in 23 countries. Our affiliates have served more than 1.2 million women by giving them the tools they need to achieve lifelong economic independence.

Dress for Success Cincinnati was founded by Mary Ivers in 1999. Since the very beginning, it’s been our vision not only to provide assistance to women in need of appropriate clothing to interview for a job, but also to provide a stable, safe and caring environment for women as they reclaim their lives.

We celebrate the expansion through the years of our services beyond the suit and especially, we celebrate the many thousands of women it’s been our privilege to serve.

Our Purpose

The purpose of Dress for Success Cincinnati is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

We serve unemployed and under-employed women in the Greater Cincinnati area—many overcoming barriers like homelessness, addiction, incarceration, or abuse. No matter their past, every woman is welcomed with dignity and respect as we empower for the road ahead. Our focus is on where she’s going—and how we can support her on the journey.
